White Elephant Gift: Box of cigars

Cian had been somewhat of a loner over the past couple of months. His mind torn and confused on where to go and what to do. His little brother no longer little as he now had a child of his own. A little, happy, bouncy baby boy that Cian couldn’t seem to get enough of. As for his little sister and brother, well, he was continuously caring for them. Always jumping up to bat whenever they needed it, running to the school to help, busting his ass in the Ministry, whatever he could do he would do it. For them As for relationships they were moreso a thing of the past as he allowed himself to put forth all of his energy and focus into them since they needed it. No mother, no father. You might as well have considered them deceased. They were useless and constant with pushing them in all the wrong directions.

But Cian would never push them. Ever.

They were safe and sound beneath his wing and that was where they would stay. That was where they would continue to live was in his household. Not the home of Marcus Flint where the abuse was ongoing. Not so much physical but mental. From both he and their mother. They were safe with Cian where they belonged. Even if it was mentally straining from time to time, but he needed to keep his head above water regardless. The Ministry had become his second home since after the war- it was the place where he had tossed in all of his hard work and no play. It was where he had recovered from a darkened and long hard road. Sure it was plenty of running back and forth but it kept he and his family afloat.

Though from all the running he had been piled with the Ministry had insisted on throwing a Christmas party for all who was willing to attend. One within the three broomsticks. Nothing special really, just something for them to unwind with. Filled with food, booze, music, bands, you name it. A place to mingle with one another. - Stopping just out front of The Three Broomsticks, Cian inhaled deeply and made his way into the small bar. Or, what was a small bar. Inside they had expanded the place quite a bit. Just enough to fit in almost every witch and wizard in the world almost. The decorations filling the room as small trickles of snow had come down from the ceiling. It was beautiful, relaxing, and something he had needed. Christmas music roared in the background as Cian had taken he had continued his way into the crowd of people. Familiar faces standing all around him as he retrieved a single drink to soothe his soul. Who would come wandering in next? What other familiar faces would he see?

Taking a long swig of his darkened ale, Cian awaited. That mussed hair now being pulled back by his long fingers as he made his way over to the tree that stood firmly in the corner. The Minister of Magic calling out to the bunch as they had rendered a fun little game of White Elephant. Pulling the small package from his pocket, Cian tossed it beneath the tree and stepped away. His glass still in hand.

The holiday season was something that hadn't been too important to her the past couple of years. With James being gone, she hadn't felt like celebrating with all of the worry that she had been going though. Not to mention the fact that the war and fear of losing loved ones had put a damper on things as during the last year. But that was done and over with now. She had lost someone very dear to her, but it was time to suck it up like the big girl she was and move on. It was time to be happy again. To celebrate with the people she still had. And the party being thrown at the Three Broomsticks was teh perfect opportunity.

Olivia had taken her time getting ready. Pinning her hair up into a bun on the top of her head, curls cascading down randomly around her face. The green dress loose and flowing down around her thighs. There was no rush to get to the party. Olivia had no idea how long it would take her brother or James to get there. With not going out too much in the past year, she had not really associated herself with anyone besides them and her clients. Only going out enough to keep up with the bills that she had taken on. But she had done all that she could do and it was time to show face.

Walking into the Three Broomsticks, Olivia smiled as she watched the snow fall magically from the ceiling. It appeared that many people had arrived before her. Everyone was mingling and drinking as they passed the time. She was ready to go get a drink but first she had to get rid of the pesky gift that she had in her hands. Turning, she made her way towards the tree.

The breath caught in her throat as her eyes locked onto a figure across the room. That familiar stance, the hair, the clothing. Cian... She had not seen him in such a long time. He had been written off as dead! How could he even be here? How could he be alive and not have come to her? Olivia was in such shock as she stood where she was, unable to approach the tree to drop off her gift. The girl was not yet ready to be that close to him. Not when she had no idea where to even begin. The sadness and rage bubbling up inside of her. Can you put this under the tree for me? She said, pushing her gift into the person's hand before getting a response.

Where in the world was James? He would be very helpful in a time like this.

White Elephant Gift: Box of cigars

Taking a swig of his drink, Cian looked around the room at the faces once more. Many coworkers piling in with half plastered shit eating grins smered across their faces. If he had known any better, Cian would have come prepared as well. He would have opened that bottle of bourbon he had sitting on his work desk at home and had tossed back a few swigs and such. But he didn’t. He had figured himself to be a totally different person since the war and the fact that he was taking on full responsibility of his kid sister. He had to set an example even if it killed him to raise that bottle. After everything he had went through, Cian figured it was best to take back a few swigs and what not. To ease his stresses and held mend those horrible night terrors.

In the moment of tossing back a few more swigs, Cian motioned the bartender down for another draft. One down, how many more to go. He wanted it all in that moment. Anything to numb himself for the night before having to return to reality. Sure it was Christmas and he should have went about it a different way, but this was his only time of relaxation. ”Thank you.” He responded to the bartender as he held that draft beer in hand. Perhaps a couple more an he would split. Yeah. That’s what he would do.

Though before he could even allow the thought to continue processing, Cian was stuck by the ghost of his past. The one girl that he hadn’t given enough time to and wish he would have. But his life was different now. He had responsibilities and things to get done that he didn’t really have the time to piss of like he used too. And it killed him. But his family had come first and she had known that. Though since the war had passed through and everything that had gone on, Cian had thought of her from time to time. Hoping and praying that she was okay. Praying that she was still alive and they hadn’t placed their hands on her for some odd like reason.

Tossing back a long drink, Cian sat his mug down before finally removing himself from the stool. Yet instead of approaching her, he stood there leaned up against the bar watching her. She was beautiful as always. And to see his name come across her lips caused a small uneasy smile. Watching as she passed him to get to the tree, Cian cleared his throat. ”You look lovely.” he finally added, trailing those eyes across the room before coming back to her. ”I mean it, Olive.”

How could Cian act like everything was fine and dandy after everything that had passed? To just casually talk to her like nothing had happened? Olivia had spent months worrying about the state of his family. She had spent months mourning his death. And here he was, alive and well. He was drinking and out in the open and talking to her. Things were not okay. And Olivia was not going to fall into his lap in a puddle of relief. No. Not this time. She was livid.

Turning her eyes onto Cian, Olivia opened her mouth to say something to him. Nothing came out though. She did not have a thing to say to him. Instead, she reeled her arm back, fist balled, and sent it flying into the side of his face. The impact vibrated throughout her whole arm and brought tears to her eyes. But Olivia wasn't sure if the watery eyes were from the pain of the punch or the pain in her heart. Those tears wouldn't fall though. Olivia wouldn't let him see past the anger. Not when he had hurt her so deeply and decided to just waltz back into the world.

Where the fuck have you been? She shouted, her arms flailing out in front of her. You were fine this whole tie and you let me believe you were dead? What the fuck, Flint? Pushing him back, Olivia couldn't think of anything else to say. Well, nothing else that would stay on path of her anger. She wanted to throw her arms around him. Embrace him and tell him how happy she was that he was okay. That the Elite hadn't gotten him killed. He was alive! That was all she could ask for. No! He had disappeared. Left her without a second thought!

Turning her back on him, she crossed her arms across her chest. Looking at him would only make her cave in to the feelings that were haunting the other half of her. The feelings that made her want to forgive him. To understand that he had reasoning behind straying from coming to her. That wasn't something that she could understand though. They were always able to turn to each other in times of need. They always helped each other when the other needed it.

Olivia had no one to turn to these past couple of months. She had spiraled into a deep dark pit of despair. Olivia had made the worst decisions to keep her life rolling ahead. The young girl had gone home with black eyes more nights than she could count. The men that she had to bed in order to make a living...they weren't with her only for sex. The money was not worth the pain. Not when she didn't have Cian to turn to. But she had taken care of herself in any way that she had known how. She was used to the beatings and the horrid experiences in the bedroom growing up with her father. Olivia had always found a way to survive. But Cian had always made it a tad bit easier. Had talked her through the thoughts that ran rampant in her mind. And now she didn't know what to do with those blue eyes staring at her that she had missed so much.

Cian could have kicked himself in the ass for leaving her behind. He could have kicked himself so hard but what was the reason now? What he had done was done and there was no taking it back. Now they were two distant souls unable to reconnect and he could feel that. He could feel the distance between the two and, truthfully yes, it was ripping him to shreds. Standing there in silence as he had watched the dark haired beauty shif in his direction, Cian could feel his heart race against his chest- unsure of why honestly. Perhaps it was due to the fact that he had up and ran away from her pretty much. Not so much as a single word, owl, visit. He just left like he always did. What he and his brothers had done best when shit got out of hand.

Where the fuck have you been?!

The words almost haunting as he inhaled deeply. There was no need to lie to her, why would he lie? He had been gone, dealing with the Elite, his family, work.. Cian never received a break over the passing year and now here he was. Face to face with the one person that he had let down. The one person who had given their all for him. And he wasn’t there. ”Olivia.. I…” Cian looked away, inhaling again as he had tried to still his out of control beating heart. Teeth clenched in pain for the poor woman. She had been attacked because of him. She had been beaten, torn, belittled, Merlin only knows what else they had done to her. And he didn’t want to risk that again. He couldn’t allow them to get their hands on her. She didn’t deserve that!

”It’s kind of hard to explain..” It was. It really was. But he could have at least tried months ago! Instead of making it out to seem like he was dead and gone. Hurting her. Cian didn’t want to hurt her.. He loved her, damn it!! The push had come unexpectedly as Cian had allowed it- as he had taken whatever it was she were to dish out. ”Olive, you’re overreacting and being completely irrational right now.” He heaved, his chest tightening out of frustration. All eyes on the two of them as she had raised a ruckus. Something she was fond of doing. Anything to cause a scene, so it seemed. Yes he had disappeared. Yes, he failed to let her know where he had been but that was for her safety, damn it! [i”Olive.”[/i] He huffed, trying to collect himself.

The wandering eyes had become enough for Cian. He wasn’t fond of the silent treatment even though he deserved it. He deserved whatever she had to throw at him. He didn’t give a shit. But he wasn’t going to allow everyone and their grandmother to become a part of their business. ”We can talk elsewhere, but not here. Not like this.” He swallowed hard, reaching out to grab her arm as he eyes the starring faces. ”Come with me, Olive?” Cian looked to a small corned back by the bathrooms. It wasn’t completely out of sight and, yet, it was secluded in a way. A bit of privacy that was much needed. With a small tug, he gave her those pleading eyes. ”Please.. Walk with me? Talk with me? Fucking something?”
