As a result, the majority of the young man’s friends were in the Slytherin house. All his best friends were either those he met in detention or through one of his father’s many pureblood parties. Either way, it limited the pool of diversity to roughly zero by the time Eli started deciding with whom he was going to be close. He didn’t mind, though. Who better to hang out with than those who were going to be spending most of their time in detention by his side? Or those who were going to be embarking on some adventure that would eventually land them all in detention? Or those who were interested in a no-strings-attached relationship with someone of a relatively high status? Which was what landed him in the Slytherin common room at such an outrageous hour.
Conquests were one thing, but this particular witch was more of a regular customer for Eli. The two of them had met a few years back, and they’d struck up something of an unspoken deal between the two of them. The voluptuous brunette would be on call for when the pickings were slim or the mood struck at an impromptu time, and Eli would scare off all the creeps who thought it was alright to touch a woman without her permission just because her shirts weren’t always buttoned up all the way. It was a win-win. And she, at the very least, provided the perfect distraction from one particular blonde vixen whom the Ravenclaw couldn’t seem to get out of his damn head, no matter how hard he tried. And boy, did he try. He was finally sneaking out of the girls’ dormitory after what had to have been the third or fourth round of “trying” when he spotted a familiar, raven-haired girl seated on one of the green leather couches near the fireplace.
“Well, hey there, sis,” he grinned mischievously as he crossed the room, partially happy it wasn’t a prefect waiting for students to be out of bed past curfew or sneaking in and out of each other’s rooms and partly excited by the fact that his long-lost half-sister was once again under the same roof as him. Originally, he thought maybe they could be friends. They both had rather shit lives that only the other person could really, truly understand. And then, he realized that it would only be right if he treated her exactly as a brother would treat his sister, including torturing her mercilessly until she wished she were the only child that she always thought she was. Yes, that much he could manage. Eli heavily plopped himself on the sofa next to his relative. “What’s keeping you up, Finny?” The nickname was a rather new development, but one which made him grin like the cat that ate the canary.
Since Delphine wasn't much for sleep especially as of late she often found herself downstairs in the empty Slytherin common room fucking around on her phone or catching up on home work. She wasn't sure what it was about the night but she just felt more awake which often left her restless as most where sound asleep by ten or so. But she found ways to entertain herself though admittably they weren't nearly as exciting as what she'd gotten up too at her old school.
She just hadn't found her groove yet she supposed. She had her friends but part of her was afraid to show them this side of her for fear of what they might think and well she was aprehensive of everyone else. Though with her history of being the target of bullying over the years when she'd first attended the school it wasn't surprising.
The girl wasn't a Malfoy people didn't fear her to keep their comments in hushed tones and when she was younger she had tended to shy away from the confrontation.
Tonight she was dealing with home work having to get through thirteen chapters by the nights end but she'd already gotten through eight of them by the time she was disturbed by someone coming in to the common room. Elijah. What was he doing here she thought wearly to herself as she closed her books frowning as he greeted her in such a familiar way. Delphine had gone seventeen years ignoring his very excistantance and that wasn't about to change just because they were living under the same roof. She had played nice over the summer in front of the parents but she wasn't fooled by his game she knew he had no real interest in being a family he was only playing little brother because he knew it annoyed her and he got some kind of sick pleasure in getting under her skin.
"Eli" she said replied raising her brows finding herself just slightly curious as to why he'd found himself here in the Slytherin common room as he most definatly was not a Slyherin. This was supposed to be one of her few "safe spaces" from him. But here he was and in the middle of night no less. "What brings you around these parts? hmmm" she asked pressing her lips together though it turned in to a frown as he sat down next to her.
Too close a voice cried out but she ignored it. "What's keeping you up Finny" he asked causing her to scrunch her nose at the nickname he'd recently given her. "Oh is that why your here? Checking up on me" she asked her tone teasing. "Well rest assured I'm fine I'm just a night owl" she said forcing a smile she reached over and pat his arm trying not to look completely awkward in the action. "You can go now....good night" she said pulling her hand away.
But, in close second to bothering his infatuation, stood Delphine Crabbe and the desire to pick her apart like the vulture he was. The girl who shared his name and his blood. The sister he had never known except for those fleeting moments when his mother’s rage proved to be too much for her small frame and she aimed every swear word she knew at the intangible family who stole the man of their household away from them. It did occur to Eli that Delphine might look at him with the same eyes through which he saw her, but that didn’t deter him. Sympathetic or not, he could only count on one thing to bring him joy: tormenting others.
“Oh, you know,” he replied, waggling his eyebrows at her obnoxiously. “Answering to my wonderful fan club. Duty calls, and all that, eh?” Elijah faked a yawn, stretching wide and bumping his long limbs against her in a manner to which he was sure she would respond by shrinking away from him.“Come on, sis,” he emphasized the word, “don’t you want to hang out a little bit? We never get to bond anymore, not the way Mummy and Daddy would insist on during the summer.” He clasped his hands in front of him, looking at her with a mocking eagerness glinting in his dark eyes. “Don’t you want to braid each other’s hair and tell secrets?”
As he spoke, the dark-haired boy pondered what other things he could say to annoy her. Some part of him briefly wondered why poking at her nerves seemed to be his one true purpose in life as of lately, but it was something to combat his usually overwhelming boredom. Someone like Eli was hard-pressed to find a hobby at a place like Hogwarts, so he took entertainment where he could find it, even if it was juvenile.
Though Elijah claimed to be concerned with how his elder sister was adjusting they where both aware that it was merely an act. He wasn't here for her but instead of respectfully ignoring one another and tending to their own business he had decided to take a detour from what or whoever here for to torture her. It was like he got some twisted pleasure in knowing he got under her skin. But then the two where alike in that way.
Perhaps if Delphine had been more kind when he'd first come to Hogwarts or had at least acknowledged him then things would be different between the two now. But she had been angry
She couldn't do that now though. She had tried but he seemed to like the way she lashed back out at him purposely digging at her until she reacted. Over the summer the two had been down right cruel to one another. Delphine digging at him just as he did her. Picking at one another's insecurities. Part of her felt guilty at the way she'd lash out at him knowing that what they both went through wasn't something others could understand and that if they tried they could be bonded together. But it was much easier to fight then it was to open up to eachother.
Delphine had asked why he really found himself here in the Slytherin common room and he replied that he was answering to his fans causing her to make a bit of a face as she pretended to gag. "I feel sorry for the girls who are insecure enough to sleep with you" she said with a bit of a smirk that fell when he made contact bumping his shoulder into hers.
"Come on, sis dont' you want to hang out a little bit? We never get to bond anymore, not the way Mummy and Daddy would insist on during the summer.“Don’t you want to braid each other’s hair and tell secrets?” " Elijah said in a way that made her nose turn up a bit. "You realize just how insestual that sounded right? That's creepy even for you" she said turning so that she could put her hands on his arm forcefully pushing him to the other side of the couch reclaiming her personal space.
"And what I want is for you to go away...don't you find it the least bit odd that you came here for a booty call and yet are opting to annoy me instead? Does it really give you that much gratification?" she asked crossing her arms and raising a brow.
“I’ll have you know,” he drew out very slowly, pondering how best to proceed with his sibling, “that there is no need to feel one bit sorry for those girls. I never have an unsatisfied customer on my hands. In fact, they often come back for seconds.” Eli shot her a wicked grin, a facial expression that was certainly no stranger on his sharp features. “Thank you for your concern, though, sis. I’m sure, if you have any future worries, you need only turn to the first girl you see in your common room and ask her how it was. Whoever she is, I’m sure she’ll be able to give you plenty of details about her end of the ordeal.” Were his words going too far? Maybe. But, did he care at all? Nope.
Delphine’s words did unnerve his usually cool demeanor, however, and he had to hold himself back from visibly balking at her suggestion of incest. “Why, Finny!” He exclaimed, a little too loudly, in a grandiose show of mock-shock. “I can’t believe you of all people would suggest such a naughty thing. Then again, I do know of your reputation, so I can see how you would get confused.” A dark shadow fell across his eyes as he spoke of her supposed promiscuity, a reputation which Elijah knew she would like to escape more than just about anything else at Hogwarts. “I’m talking about family bonding, not a cheap rip off a Muggle porno. Come on, let’s not confuse what this is…” he paused, letting what little suspense dripped from his words build up to an almost mediocre level, “an unwanted siblingship.” Before he could react, she had shoved him into the far corner of the sofa, and his unpreparedness made him fall in an act of unbalanced movement.
Straightening himself up enough to face his sister again, Elijah granted her the forced space, not really wanting to be that close to her either. If that was just going to make her physically aggressive and not internally annoyed, there was no point to that effort from him. “Again, sweet of you to be concerned,” he said, dryly. “But, I already completed that…booty call, as you so eloquently put it. Maybe you were too invested in your daydreams for an actual life to hear the screams of delight coming from the girls’ dormitory, but they were very much real and very much there. So, I’d say I am very gratified at the moment, thanks for asking.” He smirked again. “Lucky for you, my night is now freed up. Meaning I can spend the rest of it keeping you company while you plot your grand reentrance into the main Hogwarts social circle. I’ll be here to poke holes in whatever you come up with, of course.”
Delphine knew that she shouldn't engage with Elijah when he was like this
Knowing that about him should have been enough to curve her tongue but it wasn't. He brought out a darker part of her; one that wasn't so nice. When he would leave later the young witch would find herself feeling guilty but in this moment she was enjoying the thrill of the rush. She picked at him a bit telling him she felt sorry for the girls he'd managed to bed and he was quick to defend his reputation. His reaction causing a girlish giggle to escape her lips. "Oh Eli it's so cutre that you jump to that a bit sensitive are we?" she said in a coy tone lifting her brow "You forget I know you that's enough to feel sorry for them" she teased as she flipped her hair back behind her shoulder.
She wasn't going to let him get the best of her. Part of her thought that perhaps if she showed him that she could not only take his digs but make ones of her own that this game would stop. Not that she thought they were going to suddenly become normal loving sibs but perhaps find a mutal respect for one another and keep out of eachother's way.
But even that was probably just wishful thinking.
As he continued to pester her the young witch decided to up the game a bit going pretty dark and acussing him of practically flirting with her. Something they both knew he wasn't actually doing still it did the job because despite him thinking he did such a good job covering his emotions she knew she'd raddled him if only just a bit.
He countered her though acting unphased and practically amused by the accusation giving her some speech on what this relationship between them was.
Her response was a lot less worded as she'd simply shoved him into the far corner of the sofa not wanting him near her. "You say one thing brother but your tone says another" she spat back laughing when he fell.
Delphine brought a hand to her mouth trying to contain herself knowing it wasn't very kind to laugh at someone at their own expense...but this was Elijah... an excuse she'd been telling herself often when they had these encounters.
"If I was unwanted you would have passed me ignoring my existance as I try to do yours" she said flashing him a sweet smile before bringing up the fact that he'd passed up his chance for ass to get his rocks off in another way with her but he assured her that he was in fact on his way out. Resting her elbow on the arm of the couch she placed her hand under her face looking over at him. "Oh yes I'm truly lucky" she said rolling her eyes letting her arm drop and dramatically dropping her head against her arm letting out a groan before turning and settling so that the back of her head was resting on the arm of the couch.
"Go away Eli" she said in a child like whine pushing his left with her sock covered foot doing her best to try to annoy him. "I don't want to be in your precious main circle I have my own" she said reaching a hand down and blinding grabbing for her bag. After a couple of seconds she let out an "Ah ha!" pulling the small bag into her lap and opening the draw string pulling out a small metal tin and a light.
"Seriously brother the less time we have to spend together the better" she said in a cool tone as she opened the tin and took out a joint placing it between her lips and lighting the end.
Sitting up she took another drag as she reached out placing her hand on his shoulder giving him a light shake. "Can't we go back to that? It was so nice...less....whatever this is" she said flashing him a smirk she leaned back settling down again as she blowing out smoke rings.
“Hey, hey, hey!” Eli protested, trying to block her vicious kicking efforts by swatting at her feet with his hands. Even through her socks, Eli could tell her feet were cold, but rather than sympathy, he felt only disgust toward the clammy toes that assaulted him. “Get out of here, you heathen!” He whacked at her again, this time either his efforts succeeded or the dark-haired Slytherin girl grew sick of the attack. Either way, he was thankful that she removed her feet from his person. He watched with wide-eyed apprehension and admiration as she lit the joint and placed it between her lips.
While Delphine was distracted by trying to shake him, Elijah saw an opportunity to grab at her blunt, and with deft fingers he swiped it right out of her grasp. With a devilish smirk, Eli took a drag from the beautiful mechanism in his hand. “Your main circle, though,” he said, bringing the conversation back around to her previous statement. “You mean the circle that was doing just fine before you rejoined it? The circle that found a pretty little blonde replacement for you? The circle that includes a man with whom you’re in love – a man who you pretend to care for even though we both know you would wreck the relationship he has with the woman he loves if it means you might have a shot with him. Is that the circle you’re talking about?”
The soliloquy ended with a knowing look. Elijah normally wouldn’t invest so much time in a woman he wasn’t trying to bed, but Delphine was an exception. Anything he could learn about her to make her life more unbearable – as his had been for so many fatherless years – he would learn and use against her. Luckily, Delphine was an open book to him, and it didn’t take much reconnaissance to learn all he needed to know about Delphine Crabbe. “Thanks for sharing, sis.” He added, tipping the blunt back toward her with a malevolent grin.
Growing a bit childish Delphine had resorted to jabbing and kicking at Elijah in an effort to make him move and possibly even leave. Which was after all what she wanted especially in this moment as she often found herself staying up late just to have some time to herself. All the dark haired witch wanted to do was smoke and get lost in her book before finally dragging herself off to bed. But her dear half brother here was ruining that with his need to insert himself into her life. Honestly it was hard enough being back here without him lurking about.Though she held her head up high and was taking shit from no one; on the inside she was doing all she could to hold herself together and not recluse. These people all knew why she had left in the first place and they seemed to have many different ideas about why she'd returned.
Eli protested her actions fighting back by swatting at her while calling her a heathen causing her to laugh and draw her feet up. Fuck it she thought to herself realizing she wasn't going to win that one and so instead she tried reasoning with him telling him that she really had no interest in inserting herself into his life or social group so there was no need for whatever this was to carry on. They'd gone years avoiding eachother and with this being her last year why start something now especially something so ugly. She'd rather just go back to what they had before.
Lighting the end of her blunt Del had gotten all of a drag before Elijah had stolen it from her causing her to let out a "HEY!" in protest followed by a quick jab to his side with her foot. "Rude!" she said making a face at him and crossing her arms. "Pretty sure we aren't the type of siblings who share" she said lifting her brows at him though they fell when he spoke up again going back to what she'd said before about being having her own circle.
Letting the emotion drain from her face the dark haired witch stared at her brother keeping a calm exterior while on the inside she wanted to smack him. "You don't know what your talking about Eli so please stop fucking pretending you know anything about me." she sat snatching back the joint he held out to her ignoring his thanks and taking a drag before continuing. "See because if that were true it would already be done. I don't play games when I want something dear brother I go for it. And that pretty little blonde who replaced me well she and I are becoming fast friends" she stated using air quotes when saying the word replaced.
How the fuck did he know that? she thought to herself internally panicking while taking puffs off her joint. She hadn't thought she was acting any different towards Lorcan if anything she'd pulled back a bit worried that Diana wouldn't be comfortable with the pair's closeness. A closeness that wasn't anything new between the two; they'd been friends since second year and Delphine had always been a touchy person who flirted with just about everyone. She didn't mean anything by it but given that Lorcan now had a girlfriend and Del's newly self discovered feelings she'd made an effort to watch herself when it came to Lorcan.
Was that it? Had her brother noticed the change? The effort she put in not to cross any bounds?[/b] she wasn't sure but either way he could fuck off she wasn't going to let him shame her or make her feel more guilty when she wasn't even doing anything about those feelings
They weren't worth her friendships.
After taking a couple more puffs she held the joint out to him without thinking about it. Pausing for a moment she almost thought of pulling her hand back but then decided [i]fuck it
The aggression with which Delphi met Elijah’s words was to be expected. Even with all the hostility she threw at him, though, the Ravenclaw could almost swear he heard a falter in her voice that indicated he’d hit the nail right on the head with this one. Shrugging after she swiped her joint back from his fingertips, Eli neatly folded his hands and tucked them behind his head, leaning back into the couch and making himself comfortable. “Alright, alright, sis,” he said, rolling his eyes a bit. “You aren’t being replaced and Diana is going to be your best friend forever and ever ‘til death do you part. Yada yada yada.”
Elijah stared at the joint Delphine offered him, but he didn’t take it. He didn’t want to bond with the raven-haired girl by his side. He wanted to push all her buttons. “Look, I get it. I get why your jealous of her. She’s hot. Blonde, smart, shares his interests, in the same house as him, and that body…” Eli let out a long, low whistle. “But, don’t worry, Finny. I’m sure you’ll find a way to wreck things for them. The Scamander kid will come running back to you for sure. Unless he finds out what you did… What are you going to do, by the way? I know I’m just throwing things around her, but I’m sure you’ve already concocted some sort of plan. Am I right?” He nudged her with his elbow.
“Let’s see if I’ve got this right,” Eli began, a story unraveling itself in his imagination. “You’re going to drive a wedge between the two of them, slowly, is that it? No, that would take too long, and you don’t have the patience for that. Gonna slip Lorcan a little love potion on V-day? Something tragically cliché like that?” He pretended to stroke his beard, as if pondering the potential for success of this scenario. “Seduce him, send evidence to the blonde, and she’ll never bother either of you again. That’s smart.”
Delphine had almost been certain her half brother had realized that he'd over-stepped. That even for him this was going above and beyond their little game and he was stepping in to dangerous territory by bringing her friends in to it. Honestly she wasn't bothered by the other shit like implying she was slutty or some kind of party girl it was basically the same bull shit guys told girls everyday. But this was different. It hit too close to home and she hated that he could see through her the way he did.
For a moment he had back peddled but only for a moment then the digging began again. He accused her of being jealous of Diana before listing all the reasons he thought she should be but the only made her laugh because it was just too obvious what he was trying to do. "I'm a good four out of six of those and if we're being honest not being blonde or a ravenclaw aren't actual disadvantages" she said in a coy tone as she refused to actually open up to Elijah about anything having to do with her or her feelings instead simply poking holes in what he was trying to imply.
However the more he spoke the more she internally struggled to hold herself in such a composed mannor. Bringing the joint back to her lips she took a few puffs while Elijah continued to make up these scenarios about how she was going to try to steal Lorcan away from Diana. If looks could kill her half brother would have fallen right there before her after nudging her with his elbow as the glare she was giving him was rather intense at the moment. "Again brother you have no fucking clue what your talking about" she said her voice a bit more strained this time as she felt like she was on the edge of loosing her shit.
Which she did the moment his final vile scenario left his mouth and she punched him hard in the mouth before going a bit wide eyed as if realizing she had actually just done that and not just thought of doing it. But now the dark haired witch was left with two options apologize
She went with option two.....
Instead of asking if he was okay she was quick to get on her feet closing the space between them once more by leaning over him and bracing the back of the couch her face close to his. "I'm not going to do anything to Diana or with Lorcan and if you don't drop it I'm going to spend the rest of my year making your life a living hell brother" she said in an eerily calm tone.
Straightening up she offered him a sweet smile before taking a step back placing the joint back to her lips taking a long drag. "You know what they say about Slytherins and how ambitious we can be...." she said after a moment. "And what I want is to enjoy this year and many more after with my friends I wouldn't let anything including these feelings you seem to think I have for Lorcan to get in the way of that. I'd loose Diana and even if I did manage to keep Lor I would eventually lose him to. It wouldn't be worth it. So I suggest you keep these ideas of yours to yourself before they cause me problems because if you cause me problems I'm going to cause you problems" she said in a matter of fact tone.
Ah, he silently decided as the f-bomb left the raven-haired girl’s lips. Now we’re getting somewhere. Delphine was definitely on the brink of losing it. Now Elijah was in the precarious situation of deciding whether or not he wanted to push her over that edge tonight. Maybe he would pocket his ideas of annoying her and save them for a rainy day. Eli was more than certain that his jokes would still be ripe in a few weeks when they were back home for the Christmas holiday and he needed to put his dear sister in her place again. At least, he thought he still had the option to back out. It wasn’t until his last suggestion tumbled off his tongue that the ticking time bomb that was his half-sister finally blew.
“Crazy bitch!” Eli bellowed loudly enough to wake up the entire Slytherin dormitory and get himself kicked out in the process, but he didn’t care. Reflexively, a hand flew to his mouth, poking the sore spot out of curiosity and checking his fingers for any blood that may sputter out of his split lip. It came back with a few little dots, but not enough to cause any serious damage. It would turn into a nasty little mark that he would need to find a way to explain to his friends, though. Nostrils flaring, the Ravenclaw let his hand drop to his side, unconcerned with whatever problems his throbbing face would pose for him later just as Delphine leaned in to make her threat. Playtime was over now.
Fixing a dark look on his half-sister, he stood up, nearly toppling her backwards as he took up the space she was previously inhabiting. “Alright, Finny,” he replied coolly, brows furrowed with the concentration he was putting into looking at the witch in front of him. The girl he’d never known and always hated. The girl who was so quick to try intimidating him. The girl for whom Elijah had absolutely no sympathy. “If this is how you want this to go, I’ll play along. For now,” he strolled nonchalantly toward the exit of the common room as if nothing had happened between the two of them. As if nothing could phase him. Just before he left, he turned back to his Slytherin sister, not ready to give her the last blow.
“You may be ‘ambitious,’ but you’ll never be smarter than me, and you’ll certainly never be crueler. I’m sure you’ll screw this all up on your own, but even if you don’t, who’s to stop me from doing it?” His menacing gaze locked with her soulful brown eyes in their last grand stance of the night. “We’ll see how this all plays out, but I think you and I both know what’s going to happen. You’re never going to get that friendship you think you deserve. You really think they’ll want to hang around you once they know what’s really in your heart?” Shaking his head as if disappointed by her naivety, he left Delphine there and contemplated his next move. She wasn’t going to get away with this.
